Paraúna, 150 kilometers south west of Goiânia, in
Goiás state, is a town where students and scientists come
in search of the mysteries of its rock formations. In Serra das
Galés there are strange rock formations with figures sculpted
by the wind over thousands of years, impressive through their similarity
to animals, people and objects. The rock formations of Serra da
Portaria are another mystery. It is said that below the hills there
exists a subterranean city. The area has traces of an ancient civilization,
which may have had links with the Mayas and the Incas. In the same
area is also the Vale da Felicidade (Valley of Happiness), containing
the Iron Wall. This is almost 83 kilometers long and built in stone,
with steps and a path from one point of the valley to the other.
Huge stone columns, cut with precision, are intriguing for those
who study them, but who have yet to discover their origin.
