The hot springs of Goiás attract thousands of visitors annually
in search of therapy and relaxation. The area has an important
hydrothermal basin, which spreads out through various regions.
With water which reaches temperatures of up to 45º C, Caldas Novas,
192 kilometers from Goiânia, has the biggest hydrothermal
complex in the state, with places where it is possible to immerse
oneself completely in individual baths, such as in the Municipal
Baths. In Lagoa Piratininga, there is a camping area near the town
center which has hot water swimming pools.
The waters of the 65 km2 Cachoeira Dourada Lake,
232 kilometers south of the capital, formed by the dam of the
same name on the Paranaíba river, are hot and salt. They were only recently
discovered and there is still no explanation for the phenomenon,
but various surveys have already confirmed their therapeutic value.

In Itaja, a town 470 kilometers from Goiânia on the border
with the state of Mato Grosso, there are sulphurous waters at the
Thermas da Lagoa Santa. With a flow of 14.5 million liters per
hour, the hot waters contrast with those of the torrential Aporé river,
which are cold. Only 180 kilometers to the south west of the capital
lies Rio Quente. The municipality was created in 1988 and has the
distinction of having the hydrothermal complex of Pousada do Rio
Quente and the natural beauties of the Serra de Caldas within its borders
