Power of Attorney
(A) for Brazilians:
Power-of-attorney documents are issued by the Embassy for Brazilian citizens only. A
draft of the power-of-attorney and the information required can be sent to the Embassy by e-mail, fax or mail,
or delivered in person. The specific requirements for both declarant (person giving powers) and attorney (person receiving powers) are:
full name;
full address;
country of citizenship;
marital status;
profession;
Brazilian ID card;
CIC (income tax registration card).
The declarant must come in person to the Embassy to sign the power-of-attorney and bring the information
and personal documents above mentioned.
Consular fee: CDN$ 36.00 in cash or money order payable to the Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa.
(B) for foreign citizens:
Foreign citizens must have the power-of-attorney document (written in English
or in Portuguese) drawn and duly authenticated by a Notary Public; only then should the power-of-attorney
be brought to the Embassy for legalization.
If not written in Portuguese, the power-of-attorney will require, in order to be legally
enforced in Brazil, to be translated in Brazil by an officially certified translator ("tradutor
público juramentado") and subsequently registered at the "Cartório
de Registro de Títulos e Documentos" of the same Brazilian city where the transactions specified
in the document will take place.
