Marriage Registration
To register a marriage and have a marriage
certificate, the Brazilian party must bring personally to the
Embassy thepassports of both parties and the Statement of Marriage
issued by an authority from the Provinces of Ontario (except
Ottawa), Manitoba, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
The Brazilian citizen must also bring his/her Brazilian ID card
or birth certificate, stating name, place and date of birth and parents’ names.
If one of the parties has been previously
married, it is necessary to bring to the Embassy proof of the
legal dissolution of the previous marriage. This, in the case of a Brazilian citizen, means the
divorce sentence homologated by the Supremo Tribunal Federal, in Brazil.
The Brazilian party must fill in a form provided
by the Embassy and sign the Register books. Later, he/she must
return to the Embassy to review the document and, if in agreement with its
terms, sign and receive it.
The consular fee is CDN$ 36.00 in cash or money order payable to the Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa.
Only marriages held in the Provinces under the jurisdiction detailed above can be registered at the Embassy in Ottawa.
