Pixote, a Lei do Mais Fraco (1980)
Pixote,the Law of the Weakest
Based on the novel Infância dos Mortos (Childhood of the Dead), by José Louzeiro, Hector Babenco made the most incisive and admired film about abandoned children - and the most famous since Os Esquecidos, which Luis Buñel filmed in Mexico in 1950. In the role of the prostitute Sueli, Marília Pêra came to be compared to Anna Magnani by critics throughout the world. Fernando Ramos da Silva, who played the role of Pixote, would end up suffering the same tragic fate that befell his film character, the symbolic victim of urban poverty and violence.
