Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol (1963)
God and the Devil in the Land of the Sun
A Western in Third-World dialect, which retraces and transcends the paths trodden by O Cangaceiro, in the style of the cheap paperback stories of the N.E. Brazilian ranch country. The second feature film by Glauber Rocha and the greatest explosion of talent in the history of Brazilian cinema. Masterpiece of baroque style, with its roots in Euclides da Cunha, Guimarães Rosa, Eisenstein, John Ford, Bertold Brecht and Jean-Luc Godard. A hit at the Cannes Film Festival in 1964.
