Please take notice of the jurisdiction of each Consular Office when forwarding your application (visa and tourism information, as well as download of the necessary visa request forms, are available online). The Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa only processes visas required by residents of the National Capital Region, except tourist and business applications submitted in person by residents of other regions. Applications received by mail or by courier from outside the jurisdiction of the Embassy will be returned to the sender.

All consular fees must be paid by certified cheque or money order.

The visa is valid for first entry within 90 days
The return of processed documents by mail will only be made through the prepaid services offered by Canada Post (Registered Mail, Express Post and Priority Courier). The interested party will be entirely responsible for choosing each the above mentioned services. The use of any other express courier companies is thoroughly forbidden.

3- No information regarding status of visa applications will be given either by phone or e-mail during the processing period.

To enter Brazil, any foreigner must have a passport, an international vaccination certificate (if applicable) and a visa issued by a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate. The visa, even when granted, represents only an expectation of the right to enter the country. All visas are issued individually. If more than one traveler is in the same passport, the Embassy will issue separate visas for each of them. Brazilian law does not allow group visas.
The passport must be valid for at least 6 months prior to its expiration date and it will be retained by this Embassy during the process period. It must have at least two blank pages available.
Photographs must be recent, passport size, in color or black and white, front view. Snapshots are not accepted.
Visa will be issued on a "laissez-passer" to nationals of Bhutan and Taiwan.
Application forms for minors must be signed by both parents. If sent by mail, signatures must be notarized. Minors (under 18) not traveling with both parents or legal guardian(s) must provide a notarized letter of consent signed by the non-accompanying parent(s) or guardian(s), together with payment to enable the letter and, if applicable, guardianship document (proof of guardianship is required) to be authenticated by the Embassy.
Processing time: a minimum of EIGHT (8) WORKING DAYS are required for the visa to be issued, upon presentation of the proper documents at the visa counter. Incomplete or improperly completed applications will cause delay and/or denial of the required visa. At least ELEVEN business days are required for a tourist or business visas submitted by mail or courier.
If the applicant is a resident of the National Capital region but wants to send the passport and visa application by mail or through a third party, there should always be sent an extra consular fee of CDN$ 12.00 (handling fee) in certified check or money order, as well as a self-addressed stamped or prepaid envelope.
The return of processed documents in the Canadian territory will only be made through the prepaid services offered by Canada Post (Registered Mail, Express Post and Priority Courier). The interested party will be entirely responsible for choosing each the above mentioned services. The use of other express courier companies is thoroughly forbidden.
The Embassy of Brazil will not be held responsible for passports sent by mail.
Visa holders must arrive in Brazil within 90 days from the date of issue of their visas.
Tourist and business visas are generally valid for 90 days from the first entry, renewable for another period of up to 90 days by the Brazilian Federal Police. With each entry, the visa holder is granted a stay of 90 days, renewable for an equal period by the Brazilian Federal Police, for a total stay of 180 days per year.

Please request a stamped receipt upon retrieving your passport if in addition to your visa fee, you have paid:
- handling fee (CDN$ 12.00) if processed by mail or via a third party;
- processing fee (CDN$ 156.00) for American citizens;
- consultation fee (CDN$ 30.00) when applicable.
TOURIST VISAS
Tourism trip; visit to relatives and/or friends; participation in artistic or amateur sport competitions, whenever no monetary prize or a paid admission is involved as well as participation in conferences, seminars or other academic events as non-speakers.
Requirements:
1. valid passport (for at least 6 months prior to its expiration date) which will be retained by this Embassy during the process period. It must have at least two blank pages available;
2. one signed visa application form per applicant ;
3. one recent photograph, passport-size;
4. photocopy of round trip ticket to Brazil or ticket in transit, with flight numbers, dates and itinerary. Instead of a ticket, the Embassy will also accept a signed letter from the carrier or travel agent, on company letterhead, with the name of the vessel (in case of ships), itinerary, dates of arrival in and departure from Brazil.
5. airline employees or persons on standby with open tickets must present tickets with itinerary and an airline ID card (or a signed letter from the airline on company letterhead), with the name of the employee and his/her itinerary.
6. children between 3 months and 6 years of age must have a certificate of vaccination against polio, stating kind and dosage of vaccine.
7. applicants under 18 must present a notarized letter of consent, signed by parents or guardian (with proof of guardianship, in this case).
8. self-employed or unemployed applicants must present statement of earnings. Statements of earnings of spouses or parents in case of students can be accepted.
Consular fee: for Canadian citizens, CDN$ 78.00 in certified check or money order payable to the Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa. Tourist Visas for American citizens are free of charge, however a processing fee of CDN$ 156.00 applies.
A handling fee of CDN$ 12.00 applies to all applications processed by mail. This handling fee DOES NOT cover postal charges. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope or a pre-paid courier slip. The return of processed documents will be made through the prepaid services offered by Canada Post. The use of other express courier companies is forbidden.
Incomplete applications will be returned to sender upon receipt. If a self-addressed stamped envelope is not enclosed with the application it will be kept pending until claimed.
Some nationalities may require consultation with Brazil. In that case, please allow a minimum of one month for the visa to be processed. A consultation fee of CDN$ 30.00 is applicable.
Tourist visa requirements have been waived for citizens of Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Ecuador, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Morocco, Monaco, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, S.M.
