Method of payment

All consular fees must be payed in certified check or money order payable to the Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa.

The return of processed documents in the Canadian territory will only be made through the prepaid services offered by Canada Post (Registered Mail, Express Post and Priority Courier). The interested party will be entirely responsible for choosing each the above mentioned services. The use of other express courier companies is thoroughly forbidden.

Cultural Visa:

May be granted to lecturers, researchers, teachers and participants in cultural/ scientific missions, including exchange students, (the services provided must not be paid by organizations/corporations established in Brazil, except for per-diem allowance), and to athletes under 21 who participate in training programs in Brazil.

For participants in scientific expeditions, or those operating in indian reservations, an authorization is required from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), or from the National Foundation for Indigenous People (FUNAI). The visa can only be issued after the authorization has been granted.

For medical doctors and dentists participating in assistential missions in Brazil, authorization is required from the corresponding Regional Council of Medicine or Odontology. The visa will only be issued after the authorization is granted.

As some temporary cultural visas to Brazil depend on prior approval of the Brazilian Immigration services, the application should be submitted 6-8 weeks before the intended date of departure.

General Requirements:

1. valid passport (for at least 6 months prior to its expiration date) which will be retained by this Embassy during the process period;

2. two visa application forms filled out and signed by the applicant (official forms supplied by the Embassy);

3. two recent photographs, passport-size, front view;

4. letter of invitation from the Brazilian institution, stating the purpose and duration of the trip (for exchange students proof of enrollment in an educational intitution);

5. proof of means of financial support;

For visas longer than 90 days, a Police Clearance letter from the Police Department in the area of applicant’s residence.

Visa fee: CDN$ 108.00 in certified check or money order payable to the Embassy of Brazil in Ottawa.

A handling fee of CDN$ 18.00 applies to all applications processed by mail. This handling fee DOES NOT cover postal charges. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope or a pre-paid courier slip.
