Temporary Entry of Land Motor Vehicles
According to Brazilian Customs regulations
(Instrução Normativa do Secretário da Receita
Federal nš 136, October 8, 1987), a tourist entering Brazil may
be granted a temporary entry permit for his/her land motor vehicle
for the duration of his/her stay. The permit may be renewed for
the duration of the visa extension which the owner may obtain for himself/herself.
Applicants for vehicle temporary entry permit must comply with the following requirements:
1. presentation of passport or other ID card;
2. presentation of proof of vehicle ownership or legal possession and driver's license;
3. signing of a bond;
4. presentation of a signed statement by the applicant that he/she is aware that:
a) if granted a visa extension,
the vehicle owner must contact Customs authorities (Secretaria
da Receita Federal) in the area where the vehicle is, and apply for an extension
of the temporary entry permit;
b) the second copy of the bond must
be returned for cancellation to the Customs authorities who have
jurisdiction over the port of departure;
c) if the vehicle is not
taken out of Brazil by the date in which the temporary entry
permit expires, the bond will be executed, the vehicle seized and owner subjected to fines
under Decree-law 1455 (articles 23.1 and 24) of April 24, 1976.
BOND REQUIREMENTS:
The above mentioned bond must
include at least the following information:
1. owner's ID;
2. owner's home address;
3. owner's destination in Brazil;
4. description of vehicle: make, model, year, serial number, color and tag number.
